Supportive counseling for Families, Couples and Individuals

John McWilliams, MSS, LCSW

About

Since graduating from the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College in 2008, I have developed clinical expertise in a wide range of specialty areas.  I trained in structural, contextual and attachment based family therapies while working with families at the Warwick House, a residential treatment facility for children in Bucks County.  While at Interim House West, a residential drug and alcohol treatment facility in West Philadelphia, I administered Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to women in residence seeking recovery from substance abuse.   My work with individuals in recovery include those struggling with substance dependence and sexual compulsivity.  I am passionate about my work with individuals within the LGBT community.  Since entering private practice, I have become skilled in helping young people manage the difficult transition from older adolescent to young adult.    I worked with couples to resolve relationship conflicts and ineffective communication patterns that are barriers to sexual and emotional intimacy.

Prior to becoming a clinical social worker I was a certified public accountant in California and held various senior management positions in corporate accounting and finance.  As such, I am well acquainted with the stress faced by business professionals as they balance the demands of work and family.

Originally from Franklin, TN, I moved to Philadelphia in 2004.
